How are The Tweets of Donald Trump Faring For Him?

A massive stir in the global political scenario piqued the interests of several data analysts, politicians and global onlookers alike with a revelation made by David Robinson, a data scientist. He recently revealed into the media an analysis of Trump’s tweets, wherein he figured that those that happened from an android device were done by the presidential candidate himself, but those that were done from an iPhone device were done by a campaign staff.

While many may not think too deeply about this minor information, the main distinguishing point about this revelation has something to do with sentiments behind the tweets. The android device based tweets from the candidate himself (Trump) use angrier, more negative words but the iPhone-based tweets tended to be more straightforward ones with campaign announcements and hash tag promotions; something that a simple campaigner with digital marketing and clickbaits in mind would do with their docile mannerisms. The news was initially reported by the Scientific American, PC Magazine, and the LA Times. In fact, David Robinson even gave an interview with Time Magazine about his deductions. How do you Like your Coffee? Strong with a Lot of Numbers!?

In the health conscious world today, people are often engaging in hot debates as to which drinks have the most and least amounts of caffeine in them. But as data analysts we do not like to engage in any critical discussion without having a few graphs to show for our arguments! So, the moment someone put the kettle on, we turned on our computers to sip a cuppa and make a few caffeinated graphs.

The moment we head on to a cafe or a breakfast joint these days, we are bombarded with a long list of beverages which include an assortment of coffees, tea and other sugary drinks that promise to refresh our Monday-blues thirst with a shot of energizing elixir! It is not only spoiling to have so many options, but in fact confusing to say the least when the waiter/waitress keenly asks us how we would like our coffee.

But coffee, that is dubbed as the Devil’s juice (which I believe, further adds to its charm) is known to be bad for our health when drunk too much. So, we analysed and researched and downloaded some of the data of caffeine in various drinks like tea, soda and different blends of coffee pasted them on an Excel sheet and then used Proc Import to feed and read the data into SAS datasets.

The problem we faced next was that each category still had a few too many drinks to get a quick mental grasp on the matter (i.e. typically 100+). So, we took a two stage approach. The first thing we did was to plot just a handful of drinks in each of the categories which we then recognized as we have or want to drink, and then we plotted the entire list. What Makes Artificial Intelligence So Incredibly Powerful?

As per psychoanalysts and physicians, a theory proposed by them says that there is a ‘true self’ that is the instinctive core of our personality, it must be realized and nurtured. And there is also a ‘false self’ that is built to protect this true self. From what you ask? From the dangers of insults and vulnerabilities!

Our true selves are usually complex and fragile but it ultimately remains to be our essence. In trying to share that self with the world, we send out our decoy selves to take on the day-to-day vulnerabilities, challenges, and anxieties that come forth.

High Demand for Data Scientist profiles in LinkedIn

Currently, Data Science experts are the most sought candidates in the world. According to a research report published by DJ Metrics, the number of ‘Data Scientist’ profiles in LinkedIn has nearly doubled over the last few years. At present, there are more than 11,400 data scientists on the professional networking website, out of which, 52% have added the particular job description (read Data Scientist) during the period between 2012 and 2015.

About the Research

DJ Metrics have taken into account 60,200 LinkedIn profiles of professional experts, while 27,700 records of Educational data and 254,000 records of skills sets were also used to conduct an analysis. Additionally, they have analysed the database of 6200 companies that have provided employment to the Data Scientists. The names of the Companies were collected by analysing the profiles of the Data professionals, since they have listed the names of their employers.

Great Career Opportunities

Researchers are forecasting that there will be a steady rise in the demand for trained Data Scientists, because of the increased adoption of Big Data and Business Intelligence by the leading global companies. High-end business organisations like Microsoft and Facebook are going through a continuous recruitment phase, as these companies had accelerated their hiring process by 151% and 39% respectively in 2014, as compared to what they had done in 2013.

According to the research report, about 65% of the total recruitments were carried out by the following industries:

Information Technology and Services, Internet and Computer Software Sector: 9%
Education: 3%
Banking and Finance: 2%
Marketing and Advertising: 2%

Big Data demands Bigger Skills

DJ Metrics has analysed the database of 254,000 skills in order to figure out the growth in the number of skilful Data Science professionals. The results are significant, as apart from the general ‘power’ skills; namely, Data Analysis, Analytics and Data Mining, the top skills found among the vast number of profiles included R, Python, Machine Learning, MATLAB, JAVA, Statistics and SQL. Surprisingly, the Chief Data Scientists are found to have the least technical skills, as only 27% of the profiles had listed Python, while 26% listed R as their technical skill sets. On the other hand, 52% and 53% Junior Data Scientists have listed Python and R, respectively.

Top Recruiters

If you see the chart above, you will see that Microsoft and Facebook are the top recruiters over the given period. Surprisingly, Google has not made it to the top 10, although it has recruited quite a number of Data Science professionals. The reason may be that the Data Scientists at Google are called ‘Quantitative Analysts’, which is probably used by their employees while listing their designation on LinkedIn. Since, LinkedIn has researched about the general Data Scientists; they may not have detected the alternate titles.

Countries with highest Data Scientist population

Almost 55% of the total Data Scientists in the world are currently located in the United States of America (USA), which makes the top of the list. The second country with maximum numbers of Data Science professionals is United Kingdom (UK), while the third position is occupied by India.

Big Data Analytics Is Helping To Curb Cancer For More Than 40 Years Now

The times now are such that we can name at least one of our friends, relatives or peers who have fought the dreadful battle with cancer. But luckily for us there are several people who along with their loved ones have not only fought this battle with courage but have triumphed to achieve sweet survival. But such glorious accomplishments would not have occurred if it were 40 years ago.

As per the reports, adults who were diagnosed with cancer back in 1975 only had a lowly 50/50 chance of survival after five years of being diagnosed. But today the relative five year after rate of survival across all types of cancer is as close as 70 percent. And for better, the cancer survival rate during the same time frame for child cancer patients within five years of diagnosis has improved from the previously existing 62 percent to 81 percent, which is a steep rise. Understanding Time Series Method of Forecasting
